My goodness! What a huge sheits of a match. I probably spent a lot of dollars texting my brother all my curse vocabulary.

Our midfield was plain boring and numb. Julio Batista, Felipe Melo, Gilberto Silva and Dani Alves (Brazil’s surprise card) left the ability to create decent plays somewhere very far from the pitch. Nilmar did a great job up front and Luis Fabiano, isolated, was a dim light. I had to pay attention to realize Maicon was also playing. It is amazing how a weak midfield crashes the entire team – today was a perfect example of that.

Yeah yeah yeah, both teams had already qualified, it was much of a friendly match, yada yada. No excuses. I felt a bit ashamed and angry. And Portugal was not far from Brazil’s level as well – except with some good counter attacks. C. Ronaldo was a charmer (on the negative side of the word), doing a lot of nothing and trying to look good.

The bottom line is: Brazil does not have a bench – whatsoever! With Kaká and Elano out, the creativity part was left to Lucio (!!!), the amazing defender who was also saving Brazil’s ass n the back all the time.

Brazil now plays Chile on Monday back in Johannesburg for the Round of 16. Maybe they will weak up.

I personally really enjoyed Vanity Fair’s idea to shoot football’s biggest stars in patriotic underwear and nothing more.

For the June issue of Vanity Fair, Annie Leibovitz set out to capture some of the sport’s biggest stars, including Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, and Brazil’s Kaká. Leibovitz’s portraits are, well, revealing. And underwear has never looked so patriotic.

Question to self: why is Kaká the only one in jeans? Jesus has the answer.

The World Cup Is Approaching… Time To Get Jinx Protection.

Today I read that Didier Drogba might not be able to play the World Cup in South Africa due to a hernia operation he might go through. The info comes from France’s L’Equipe. I do feel bad for the guy, but unfortunately the rapid change of feeling comes when I remember Brazil is playing Ivory Coast, and playing Ivory Coast without Drogba would be a heck lot easier. And I am probably not the only one feeling like this, spreading what we call, in Brazil, Olho Gordo (Fat Eye), or Evil Eye, or a good Jinx.

Sad, but true. Shame on me!

As we get closer and closer to the most amazing sports tournament in the world, a lot of key players should be getting anti-jinxing-get-your-evil-eyes-out-of-me-olho-gordo-de-merda protection.

I bet everyone who will face Argentina would do alright without having Messi on the pitch (I am just so absolutely glad he hasn’t been able to perform as well in the Argentinian National Team as he does in Barcelona – I hope it stays this way).And at the same time that I do want to see all the top players in action in South Africa, one has to admit that there is an unconscious wave of negative energy going towards some footballers.

So, Drogba, Messi, Buffon, Rooney, C. Ronaldo, Kaká, Torres, Henry, Cannavaro, Ramos, Essien, Ballack, Julio Cesar, Ribery, Luis Fabiano and Eto’o better all watch out and get some evil eye pendants, bracelets, whatever for protection. After all, it is when all the greatest are on the pitch that the World Cup becomes the stage of the best football seen on earth.

Portuguese players should sport a moustache during the World Cup.

The Portuguese team is not looking very Portuguese for some. That is the opinion of some Coimbra footy fans who decided to create the campaign “We want Portugal sporting a moustache in South Africa” (Queremos a Selecção com bigode na África do Sul). I personally think that would be total awesomeness.

The campaign’s creator, Ivo Lapa, initiated the effort via a Facebook page. He gathered some people and they bought tickets right behind the goal on the friendly match between Portugal and China so that they could get TV attention and some press. The effort paid off and the page has around 2k fans. I just hope it could actually reach the players…

Imagine how cool: Carlos Queiroz and his entire squad sporting moustaches? Especially C. Ronaldo…

Champions League: Matchday 6 Results

Group Stages are over. Half are out. Some very exciting matches.

Yesterday Juventus got a big upset by losing at home, 1-4, to Bayern München and is now out of the nockout stages. Bayern is in along with Bordeaux, who beat Maccabi Haifa FC 0-1. Real Madrid – or shall we say C. Ronaldo? did it’s job by winning 1-3 against Olympique de Marseille, and helped AC Milan qualify as well on group C (Milan tied Zürich 1-1 in Switzerland with a goal by Ronaldinho). C. Ronaldo’s goals were amazing. Here are yesterday’s results:

Today Barcelona played an incredible match and beat Dynamo Kiev 1 – 2 with goals from Xavi Hernández and Messi (a nice free kick). That put Barca at the top of group F and in the nockout stages along with Internazionale. Fiorentina beat Liverpool in England and qualified, along with Lyon on group E. Olympiacos beat Arsenal in Athens but both teams have qualified. Here are today’s results:

Ballon D’Or: France Football Announces The 10 Finalists

There used to be 30… now the contestants for the Ballon D’Or, France Football Magazine annual award, are down to 10. The winner (as well as the 10 player shortlist) is selected by many European journalists and will be announced tomorrow, December 1st. Cristiano Ronaldo took it last year and I find it hard he will get it again but you never know. A little bird told me Messi is the one to take it this year.

Sunofa… Not the biggest fan of C. Ronaldo, but the guy is playing some amazing football. This is his first goal (he scored another header) on Madrid’s 5 – 0 win against Xerez.

Today is an important day for Real Madrid. C. Ronaldo has passed all physical tests and will be presented shortly in front of thousands of fans (80 thousand to be more precise - beating Kaká’s record of 40 thousand). The Portuguese midfielder is joining the new galácticos after much fuss and will be playing side-by-side with Kaká. The beau will probably be wearing shirt #9 (the one used by the first Ronaldo back in the day).
