Now that Argentina has finally secured a spot in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, they can present the new uniform to be used next year. The new kit is very loyal to past Argentinian shirts and does a great job of keeping the pajama feel

World Cup Qualifiers: Portugal still alive. Argentina qualifies.

World Cup Qualifiers: Portugal still alive. Argentina qualifies.

Argentina is playing in South Africa. Maradona can breathe. The hermanos beat Uruguay 1 – 0 with a goal on the 84th minute by Bolatti. This ends Argentina’s war to qualify, as they take the 4th and last spot for a South American country. Uruguay will now go to play-offs (against Honduras or El Salvador), [...]

Expected: Brazil 4 - 2 Chile

Expected: Brazil 4 – 2 Chile

With Brazil qualified to the World Cup, the match against Chile was going to be important for 2 reasons: 1)add another victory to the incredible sequence of 18 undefeated matches; 2) test new players to join the group of 23 going to South Africa.
For that, Brazil came with the following formation: Júlio César; Maicon, [...]

Historic Loss for Argentina

Today Argentina lost a historic match to Bolivia. A 6-1 loss which had not happened since 1958’s World Cup, against (then) Czechoslovakia. Of course there is the high altitude, but no excuses. Especially because Dieguito Maradona was one of the big defenders of matches being played in high altitude (FIFA wanted to prohibit – but [...]

Riquelme quits Argentina.

Riquelme quits Argentina.

Yep. He’s out. Finished. Juan Román Riquelme announced today he will no longer play for Argentina due to differences with Maradona. He says him and Maradona have different ways of thinking and acting and that he will not be participating in next year’s World Cup. Too bad for Maradona, who will be losing a great [...]

Today’s Shorties: Hiddink, Maradona, La Furia and more.

A lot of good stuff happened today.
Guus Hiddink was announced as Chelsea’s manager. Well done Blues, the fella is a jolly good manager. And yes, almost forgot: he is still Russia’s manager, as well.
Argentina won the friendly against France, 2×0. Maradona keeps the victory coming, he has not yet lost a single match while [...]

Read. Maradona and the Scotland friendly.

Chick Young’s post on the friendly between Maradona — ops sorry — Argentina and Scotland on November 19th is a nice read. I have to say I especially like this part:
“Not that [ Maradona ] was the greatest that ever breathed. That was Pele and if you don’t accept that don’t even try to enter [...]

Official: Maradona is Argentina’s new coach

Yep. Diego Armando Maradona is, officially, Argentina’s new boss. One of the best all time players will have to work hard to bring Argentina up on the World Cup Qualifiers. Dieguito was smart though: his coordinator is Carlos Bilardo, who gave Argentina the 1986 World Cup title.
Maybe training sessions will now include “Hand of God” [...]

What if Maradona becomes Argentina's new coach?

What if Maradona becomes Argentina’s new coach?

Can you imagine? That would be really interesting. Not really good for Argentina but interesting nontheless. Today there was an almost confirmation that Maradona will be the hermanos’ boss. It’s seems like the AFA did not even consider another man for the job and Maradona believes he is quite ready to take on the burden [...]
