I woke up extra early today beacause I know that the Brazilian women’s national team never lets you down. I was right. Marta, Christiane and Formiga showed the beautiful football which sometimes lacks on them men’s team. The match winner would get the last spot on the Olympic games, in Beijing. Brazil took it, 5-1. What amazes me the most, other than the beautiful football, is the determination and love these women have for the game of football. Ghana had a completely amateur squad. Their players play football on their spare time, just like so many of us.

Yes, you read it. According to Austrian bank Raiffeisen Zentralbank (RZB), the Czechs will beat Spain in the finals after a penalty shoot out (the match will be tied 1-1). The big boys at the bank, applied the same statistical models they use to predict product evolution, bond values, etc. After all that number crunching all I can conclude is that those guys have really a lot of free time.

Former Brazil striker Romario has announced his retirement from football at the age of 42. “Officially I’m not playing any more. I’ve stopped,” he said. “My time is up. Everything has been a lot of fun.” The 1994 World Player of the Year scored more than 1,000 goals, including 56 in 73 appearances for his country, and also won the 1994 World Cup.

Everyone knows I am not a fan of Adriano (not even a small bit). This Sunday, as São Paulo faced Palmeiras for the semi-finals of the Paulistao, I hoped to see anything but Adriano scoring with his hands. The punk is a lucky one! Watch the video.
