Is this goodbye Cafu?

CafuOne of the best right midfielders to ever enter a pitch, Cafu might be retiring from professional football. The (soon to be) 38 year-old will reach the end of his contract with AC Milan this coming June. The point right now is not even if he will quit or not, but it’s nice to see a player with such a stable and successful career. Few have managed to do what he did: the guy is almost 40 and still runs like a young 20 year old.

I still remember his early days at Sao Paulo, under the eyes of legend Tele Santana, were he managed to win back-to-back Copa Libertadores in 1992 and 1993. For the Brazilian Selecao Cafu was the man on the right and the most-capped Brazilian player of all time with 156 appearances.

He is one of the few players to be in 4 consecutive World Cups, with 2 gold medals (1994 and 2002). And even though he has mentioned that he would be whiling to participate in 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the odds seem to be against him. After the disaster of the Brazilian Selecao in Germany 2006, current coach Dunga has never mentioned the return of Cafu to the squad.

Whatever his future may be, he can be secure to have added greatly to the game of football.

One of his best moves ever! Dancing Nedved?
