It’s official (and he’s happy about it). George Burley has been appointed the new boss for the Scotts. The former Southampton boss has signed a contract until 2012 and was the chosen one between a four-man shortlist which also included Mark McGhee, Graeme Souness and Tommy Burns. Now let’s be real, the guy has really big shoes to fit. After Alex McLeish’s amazing job with the Scottish squad, Burley gets in with high expectations. Discuss it on our forum.
“This job gives the opportunity to try to do something, to try to get to the World Cup finals, and as a manager you couldn’t ask for more than that,” says Burley, adding even more pressure into himself.
But do people think the SFA chose well? (from BBC 606)
“lets get one thing together here burley is a decent manager, not done well???, titswich to europe, you try it. lets get behind him and get behind the country again. we have a decent team now lets start the excitmant again when the qualifiers start. ”
“The best of the four candidates,he’s the right man for the job. Thank God they did’nt appoint Souness, or within a year it would have been ‘Come back Berti all is forgiven’ ”
“sorry he`s not a good choice, has done nothing at southampton, and unlike mark mcghee,i dont believe he will motivate the players anything like the last two managers, and he wont ever get a premiership job again,so at least from that point of view he is a safe option, but he is still not good enough”
