Fair Play Law?

 Subscribe in a reader

Football Fair PlaySince we are little we learn that fair play is a must in football. I used to be a great advocate of it but as I got into stronger and more competitive football, that sort of puffed away. Sometimes you just do not want to look at someone’s face after a match. However, something very unexpected happened this week in Italy: a nice Fair Play gesture in Serie A (I promise this is not a lie). Inter beat Fiorentina 2-0 and still got all compliments from the home squad. Fiorentina players lined up at the entrance of the locker room tunnel and did the whole “good match” thing. Now the Italian FA is going to make that official. Players will be obligated to say something like “hello mate, good match” to their opponents after the match is over.

This is, indeed, a nice gesture. But it sort of kills it to make it a rule. It is so nice to see people do it when they really don’t have to.

Roma’s Francesco Totti approves of the idea. He says it is something world football should adopt.

Maybe this will only take over on National Leagues. I don’t think that World Cups or any International matches would need this type of rule. International football already comes with the “good match” feature and a rule would only take away the beauty of it.

Well, let’s just see how it will look with the Italians first shall we?
