Brazil’s new blue kit. I like.

Brazil’s New Blue KitBack in November 2007, Nike developed a new home jersey to the Brazilian Football squad as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Brazil’s first title. Now they did it again, quite nicely must I say. The new away kit, the blue one, has been totaly redesigned to remind us of the blue uniform Brazil had to create to play the 1958 World Cup against Sweden. The new shirt brings back the story of a time where improvisation made beauties in football.

It goes something like this. Brazil was set to play Sweden in the final. But a little problem appeared: both teams had yellow shirts at a time where no second kit was available. Brazil had to change something, so the very creative people in the canarinha’s side went out and bought a whole bunch of blue shirts. To make the numbers, they bought Sweden’s shirts and cut them to make yellow details. And voila! The blue Brazil shirt was born.

I find that pretty intereting! The difference now, according to Djalma Santos (who played the final in 1958 and still has his shirt), is that the old one, when wet, addedn an extra 2 kilos in weight. The new one, with Nike’s technology, doesn’t have that issue.

The new shirt will be used in the friendly against Sweden on March 28th, in London. And I personally think it’s gorgeous (the old one looked a bit like pijamas).
