World Champions Try to Raise Money with Retro Jerseys

If you like retro jerseys, you’ll like this. If you like to make happy those who made you happy, you’ll love this. Replicas of the jerseys worn by Brazil in the 58, 62 and 70 were released this Tuesday in Sao Paulo. And this is not a simple replica, like the ones you find at TOFSS. These jerseys are made by the same company that produced the jerseys at the time. They use the same material and everything.

Nicer than that? The money for these jerseys will go to the Association of the World Champions, institution that represents 56 players who lift the cup for Brazil. It is known that many of the players of the 58/62/70 campaigns are struggling financially. Some never had the rich life that so many mediocre players have today.

Only 200 jerseys were produced, and each one will cost R$1050 (US$ 1 = R$ 1.70). The association hopes to raise R$6 million to share among the players. And take a look at the names participating in the release party:

Bellini, Gilmar, Pepe (center in the pic), Zito (left in the pic), Coutinho, Amarildo, Altair, Jair Marinho, Brito, Carlos Alberto Torres( right in the pic), Félix, Clodoaldo, Jairzinho, Paulo César Caju, Dadá Maravilha, Cafu, Mauro Silva and Zetti.

Really cool.

And just a reminder of how CBF does not spend wisely the money it makes by selling the matches of the national team, or by signing huge contracts with more and more sponsors.

Felix, the goalie from the 1970 squad said, “I’m always against Ricardo Teixeira (CBF’s president) because he made a promise to get health insurance to all world champions, but he never did anything”.
