Pelé vs. Maradona: round one million and two.

pele_vs_maradona

One of the most famous and never-ending discussions in the football world is about who is the best footballer ever: Pelé or Maradona. The last one to hit was Maradona… now Pele has punched back: the Brazilian todl the media that Di Stéfano was way better then Maradona, who could only use the left foot and whose only head goal, was with his hand.

- People discuss Pelé and Maradon. Di Stéfano is, for me, the best. Maradona was a great player, but would not hit the ball well with his right foot or score head goals. His only important header goal was with his hand (against England at World Cup 1986 in Mexico)

POW!

But as we all know, Pelé is really a PR guy. So he went on to say that as a fan of football he would like to see Argentina (and Maradona) qualify to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The king of football also told the press that he almost went to Real Madrid in 1959 (when Didi, who was also a champion with Brazil in 1958, made a deal with the Spanish team) – hitting back Maradona’s criticism that he hadn’t played in Europe.

So there you go. Have you changed your mind? I have not. No matter what, the people who find Maradona as the best ever will never change their minds. Neither will the ones who go for Pelé (and I have to say these are the folks who are right!).
