Euller weird penaltyPost from Sandro Tavares.

It happened during the final division II game between America and Ideal, two teams from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, who were deciding the state championship and a coveted ascension to the first division state cup
next year. With America already up by one, the referee saw America’s forward Douglas getting clipped from behind inside the box and didnt hesitate…PENALTY SHOT!

But that’s when things got…well…weird you might say.

As he stood by himself facing the goalie and ready to take the penalty shot, America’s forward Euller ran up to the ball and simply rolled it gently to his left. Douglas, standing outside the box along with everyone else, quickly ran in and kicked a low but firm shot into the opposite side of the net as Ideal’s goalie kneeled beaten and some of Ideal’s player raised their arms perplexed and screaming “Hey, you can’t do that???!!”

or can you?

After the game, the experienced forward Euller, 38 years of age, said it was planned all along. He had seen it while playing in Europe and there was no FIFA rule prohibiting the rehearsed shot.

After much publicity on Brazilian networks over the weekend, it remains to be seen if other teams will adopt this irreverent style of
taking penalty kicks.
