Onyewu joins AC Milan. Big move for US Soccer.

onyewu

US defender Oguchi Onyewu has joined AC Milan on a three-year contract. A big deal, since no American has touched Serie A ground in 13 years – plus it’s not everyday that an american player joins AC Milan. The last one to play in Italy was Alexi Lalas, who played for Padova from 94-96.

Milan acquired Onyewu from Standard Liege in Belgium. The player will join as a EU player since he holds a Belgian passport (could he have done it without that passport?) even though he was born in DC, to Nigerian parents.

Well done.
