How Much Money Brazilian Clubs Made in 2008

Globo Esporte published the numbers of Brazilian clubs for 2008. 21 clubs were included in the list. And only 6 of them did not have red ink in their final balances, which shows the state of the clubs.
Sao Paulo is the club that made more money – R$160 million (about US$ 80 million). Corinthians, however, is the one with the biggest profit margin – almost R$11 million (about US$6.5 million). What comes to attention about both results is: 1)Sao Paulo did not do have a major deal regarding its players, which is key for Brazilian clubs; 2) Corinthians had the highest margin even playing the second division.
On the negative side, Vasco is the one who had the biggest deficit – almost R$277 million (about US$138.5 million). And this is understandable, as the club got relegated. The second worst deficit belonged to Fluminense, a side that, coincidence or not, is fighting to not get relegated.
The numbers also show the composition of that money: TV (24%), trading players (28%), tickets (11%) , sponsorship (12%), other sources (12%), club* (13%). Again, very bad the dependence on selling players.
*many football clubs in Brazil function like country clubs – with swimming pool and other activities and facilities that are given access through a membership.
