Brazil Loves Yellow Cards

We all know that bad refereeing in Brazil has no limits. Last weekend, the match between Corinthians and Botafogo added another example to the pile. Now, Blog do Birner started to compile that data proves that Brazilian football has a thing for yellow cards.

The blog is comparing the amount of cards given in Brazil and in the main European leagues. The results are stunning – specially when it is known that Brazil does not have a league as physical as other places. Brazil has an average of 6.6 yellows per game. Italy, the second, has 5. Besides Brazil and Italy, Birner (and his writer Leandro Iamin) is observing the amount of yellows in Germany, England, France, Spain, Turkey, Holland and Portugal. In all countries, but Italy, the blog followed the first two rounds. And the last two rounds of Campeonato Brasileiro were used for the comparison. The collection of this data is expected to last for every round of the season.
