World Cups: No more continent rotation.

 Subscribe in a reader

World Cup TrophyAfter a meeting today, FIFA committee decided to stop the policy of rotating the hosting of World Cups through its six continental confederations. No more of electing countries just because World Cups have to rotate the world. The policy helped South Africa get 2010 and Brazil 2014. Now the spot is open for 2018. Who should be the lucky country?

2018 can now be hosted by any country. Rumors say England is a strong candidate, and possible others are: Russia, China, Australia, US and a partnership of Luxembourg, Belgium and Netherlands which sounds very appealing (something like what will happen in Austria and Switzerland for EURO 2008).

I say all World Cups should be in Europe! I have never seen such good organization, transportation system and overall infrastructure as in European countries. But then again I have never really been to any cups in Asia, Oceania or Africa and it would be good to give different continents a spot…

What do you think?

Germany was the most poorly organized world cup in decades despite the European propaganda.

Luxembourg, Belgium, and Holland is a laughable option. Does this mean that Luxembourg will take on of the valuable 32 places???

The World Cup is for the world not European exclusivity. Personally, I look forward to Vanuatu 2018.

    Dear Sir,

As president of the Visit Vanuatu 2018 FIFA World Cup Bid Committee I take offence at your suggestion that World Cups be histed solely in Europe.

Vanuatu has a lot to offer world football as demonstrated by our regular participation in Oceania Football Confederation competitions and the South Pacific Games in 2006.

I encourage you to support Vanuatu’s bid for 2018 ahead of colonial superpowers like England.

    Rule Btitannia?

    Rule Vanuata.

Yours in peace, health, prosperity, and fishing.

    Seriously!
Vanuatu is not ideal for the 2018 World Cup bid. How can you be serious when your buses can be one hour slow from one end of the island to another?
    There’s only one option. Fiji!

Rino, this is not a suggestion, it is opinion.
As a Brazilian, as happy as I may be that the world cup will be in Brazil in 2014, I feel the country might not be able to have proper transportation or security.

Like I said above, 2018 can be hosted by any country. I have just had very good experiences with football matches/championships in Europe.

    Dear Mr Ana,

We welcome you to Vanuatu and the South Pacific to see how we organize the soccer and the matches. I think you will discover we are friendly people, with good parks, and frequent buses.

In fact, if you would be so bold, I invite you to use your website to promote the bid for 2018 from the South Pacific.

    Yours sincerely,

    Dear Rino,

Please send me the link to your website and I will make a post just for it so we can put your voice out there a little bit more.

I would really love to Vanuatu one day.

It is beautiful to see the love for football out there.
