Only 2 Brazilians Remain in the Sulamericana

The irony? Those two clubs are in the relegation zone of Campeonato Brasileiro. This shows how much Brazilian clubs care about this competition and how low its level is. Botafogo and Fluminense are the ones trying not only to save the season, but also to save Brazil’s reputation in the tournament.
Botafogo visited Emelec from Ecuador and lost 2-1. But the club had won the first leg 2-0. After a 2 goal draw in the first leg, Fluminense, the last club in the Brasileirao, thrashed Atletico Alianza from Peru: 4-1.
There’s even more irony when Goias and Inter, two sides fighting for the Brazilian title, got eliminated. Vitoria, which is having a nice campaign at the national stage, was eliminated as well. Inter, the current champs of the Sulamericana, visited Universidad from Chile and lost 1-0. The final score of the first leg was 1-1.
Goias beat Cerro Porteno 3-1, but it was eliminated because the Paraguayan side won 2-0 in the first leg. Vitoria did very little to reverse the 4-1 of the first leg against River Plate from Uruguay. The two clubs tied 1-1.
