EURO 2008 - watch the ticks!
By Ana on Apr 10, 2008 in EURO 2008, For the Fans
Adding to the worry and concentration targeted to winning matches on EURO 2008, teams will also have to worry about this other little thingy: ticks. Yes, Austria and Switzerland are full of them during the summer. The worse is that these are special little ticks. Some of them are infected with a virus that could paralise the nervous system. Yeikes!
Spain is extra worried. They hired a consultant to get more info on the subject and were relieved to know that the places they’ll be are not as infected! But specialists are saying the risk in not even that great and that most cities have low risk of getting ticked.
So here is my researched advice for fans and footballers:
- You can help prevent tick bites by wearing hats, long sleeves, long pants and high socks with your pant cuffs tucked into the socks. - Sort of hard for footballer but they do have the high socs!
- Light colored clothing makes it easier to find ticks. - good news for Poland bad for the Netherlands.
- You should also walk in the middle of mowed trails to avoid brushing up against vegetation. -Not a problem!
- After a day in the woods, it’s a good idea to do a “tick check” before going to bed. - In other words: look everywhere, even inside the most dark bodily places.
- SHAVE! EVERYTHING! (I added this one myself!)
The solutions, while Austria and Switzerland try to fix the bug, is to get a vaccine!
