Drawing Results for EURO 2008.
By Ana on Dec 5, 2007 in EURO 2008
This past Sunday, UEFA announced the drawing of the groups for [tag]EURO 2008[/tag] in [tag]Austria and Switzerland[/tag] from 7 to 29 of June. And although some squads got some easiness in their groups, EURO matches are always tough since the ones who qualify are the top teams in the European neighborhood. Let’s see who got who in each group.
Since only 2 per group qualify, some teams got unlucky!
Italy, France and the Netherlands got stuck in the same group. The three football giants are in group C along with Romania. This group should be a tough cookie to go through. And the match between Italy and France is always a good chance for World Cup revenge!
Portugal and the Czech Republic, in group A, should have considerable peace in their initial matches and I believe both of them will qualify for the second round.
Germany is in a really good spot on group B and should absolutely no issues to qualify.
Group D is also a pretty competitive one. Greece, defending the title, will competing against the strong Russian team along with Spain and Sweden.
But then again, football is football and there is no accurate prediction!
Group A:
Switzerland
Czech Republic - won in 1976 (as Czechoslovakia)
Portugal
Turkey
Group B:
Austria
Croacia
Germany - won 1972, 1980 and 1996
Poland
Group C:
Netherlands - won 1988
Italy - won 1968
Romania
France - won 1984 and 2000
Group D:
Greece - won 2004
Sweden
Spain - won 1964
Russia - won 1960 (as Soviet Union)
