Transfer Speculation Increases As New Premier League Season Nears

With the new football season just weeks away, a busy summer of transfer activity in and around the Premier League shows no signs of slowing down.

Manchester United were the early movers in the transfer market with the purchases of Ashley Young, Phil Jones and David De Gea but it would appear that any hopes that they had of signing Wesley Sneijder from Inter are fading with increasing rumours that Manchester City might be in for the  Dutch International. However, even with City’s millions,  the failure of Tevez to complete a move to Corinthians could make that potential deal unlikely.

A more realistic Man City target seems to be that of the Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero who has announced that he will be leaving the Spanish Club this summer. There are suggestions that the Aguero would prefer to come to Anfield but whether the already big spending Liverpool will open their chequebook once again remains to be seen and City are regarded as favourites to steal the signature of the Argentina striker as they prepare for a first season in the Champions League.

One player heading in the other direction out of Man City looks set to be Emmanuel Adebayor who could move back to north London, this time for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has revealed his club has been in talks with Man City to sign the striker who was on loan at Real Madrid last season. The Spanish giants have also expressed a desire to sign the former Arsenal star but it is though Adebayor may favour a move back to London.

Whilst most Arsenal fans will be wondering what defenders their manager, Arsene Wenger, will be bringing to the club, they will be somewhat perplexed at the signing of Lille striker Gervinho for around £10.5m. His arrival will almost certainly mean that Niklas Bendtner will be on his way out of the Emirates and he could be followed by Carlos Vela.

Wenger is also believed to be very much on the case of Queens Park Rangers star playmaker, Adel Taarabt, who is being actively pursued by the French side PSG who have recently been bought out and have money  to spend. That said, the Gunners have confirmed that there has been no renewed bid from Barcelona for the services of Cesc Fabregas which could mean that the Spaniard will be around for at least another season.

Elsewhere, it would seem that new Aston Villa boss, Alex McLeish will be given the funds to sign Wigan’s want away striker, Charles N’Zogbia, but with his current employers unwilling to sell for less than £10million, the Frenchman is reportedly threatening to go on strike.

There has been no real change at Stamford Bridge yet with fans anxious to see who new boss, Andre Villas-Boas will bring to the club and which players of course will he get rid of.

Certainly there seems to be truth in the rumour that Nicolas Anelka might be off the PSG, while Didier Drogba is still being linked with a move to White Hart lane, but this might involve a move the other way by Luca Modric, despite the club telling the Croat midfielder that he must stay. The departures of Anelka and Drogba will only take place if Chelsea can find at least one suitable replacement. The obvious interest that Villas-Boas has in Falcao, his striker from his former club Porto is still ongoing but the ‘Blues’ are keeping their ‘plans very close to their chests’ right now
