Holding onto Tevez the key for Manchester City

With Champions League football assured and an FA Cup win under their belts, the Manchester City revolution is progressing nicely.

Even those looking at Euro 2012 betting will agree that the silverware picked up at Wembley on Saturday could act as a platform for much bigger things for the club. This is just the beginning and the first of many, many trophies. That’s the idea anyway.

If this is to be the case, the summer months are going to be crucial. Ahead of their first season in the Champions League, City need to spend wisely this summer and recognise the good job the current squad has done over the last few months.

In particular, they need to focus on ensuring that Carlos Tevez remains at the club. The captain has led the line fantastically well this year and it is important that he is doing the same next season.

If Roberto Mancini needs to replace Tevez the goalscorer and Tevez the captain, then he has a big problem. It would be the biggest challenge of the summer and perhaps take away attention from spending in other areas.

With regards to Tevez’s future, it seems as though he is happy to remain at Eastlands as long as he sorts out some family issues. As things stand, his family are based in Argentina and he admits that he needs to see them more regularly than he is at the moment.

Speaking about his future, the Argentina striker said: “There is an issue we need to sort out and that’s the long distance between me and my family.”

“The club wants to me stay and I also want to stay if everything is OK for my family. I don’t know if I’m going to leave or not or go to Spain or Italy. People say I am going but I am still here.”

City need to make sure it stays that way. He has been superb for them all season and if they are to challenge for the Premier League title and compete in the Champions League, they need their main man raring to go again come August and the start of the 2011/2012 campaign.
