Big summer ahead for Liverpool

We approach the most significant summer transfer window in years for Liverpool Football Club, a real make-or-break few months.
There is a real optimism on the terraces of Anfield and indeed, within the walls of Melwood training ground after the impact of ‘King’ Kenny Dalglish who will now take the reins as the permanent manager of the club for a second time.
Then of course there is first team coach Steve Clarke, perhaps just as an important signing for the club as the manager. Clarke has brought a breed of football to Merseyside that has been desert of Liverpool supporters for years, it as though he was taught ‘the Liverpool way’ himself.
The Reds are playing football that is both attractive and potent and despite the loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, the club will end a miserable season on a high, regardless of whether they achieve a Europa League place.
The defeat to Spurs may be something of a blessing if not just an eye-opener. Time will tell whether gaining a Europa League spot is important in persuading top talent to come to Anfield, but the defeat was perhaps a reminder that a major overhaul of playing staff is still needed.
A huge factor on Liverpool’s prospects next season as far as football betting pundits are concerned lies on the relationship between Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli, who appears to be a key figure in who stays and who goes.
It must be said that Comolli’s judgement thus far can not be faulted, if at least for the acquisition of Luis Suarez from Ajax, who has made as big an impact as any mid-season signing in Premier League history.
And if the manager and Comolli can co-exist and identify and snare the targets needed to be a force again, then there is no reason why the other tandem of Dalglish and Clarke can not fire them back into the Champions League.
Liverpool’s rivals will be surprised if a handful of quality players are not unveiled this summer. But what about the current crop?
Perhaps the most promising part of Liverpool’s masterplan is the development of young talent. Lucas Leiva is likely to land the club’s player of the season award, while Jay Spearing, Jack Robinson, John Flanagan, and Jonjo Shelvey have all showed their worth in the first team.
With a blend of quality youth, three or four proven top stars and time for Andy Carroll and Suarez to create a partnership, it’d be foolish to write the Reds off when it comes to placing your football bets.
If you are not convinced, you may be after one final point.
Steven Gerrard, remember him?
