Today’s shorties: Clash of giants on Inter Milan vs Barcelona ended in a tie thanks to Inters amazing defense. Luis Fabiano, from Sevilla, was the shinning star on the 2 – 0 win against FC Unirea Urziceni. And Arsenal had to work but got out with a 3-2 win over R. Standard de Liège.

Hello Champions League Group Stages! Except for the Juventus 1 – 1 tie with Bordeaux everything went pretty much as expected. C. Ronaldo is in great shape. Kaká gave an average performance. But the name of the day was, for me, Grafite. The Brazilian scored 3 goals on Wolfsburg 3-1 win against CSKA Moscow (watch goals here). Here are today’s Champions League Results:

Oh yes! Barca took the trophy home yesterday with a nice 2-0 win over Manchester United. Goals from Eto’o and Messi. Well done. Well done. Cocky C. Ronaldo was left wondering what happened.

Iniesta Shatters Chelsea With Last Second Goal

It will be Manchester United vs. Barcelona in Rome, on May 27th. Barcelona tied the match 1-1 today at Stamford Bridge on a last second goal from Andrés Iniesta and sent the English team home winning on away goals. Chelsea really did not see that coming, neither did I. Barcelona was completely dominated during most of the match after an amazing goal by Essien on the 9 minute mark. After that, it was hard for Barcelona to shine, especially with one man down after Abidal got a red card.

Chelsea was much better overall, but managed to miss many goal opportunities which I am sure they will regret (who wouldn’t?). That’s the beauty of football. You don’t score, you get scored on. End of story.

Now Barca will face defending champions, Manchester United. I am with Barcelona on this one.

Manchester United is in the final, again. Last year’s Champions League winners have the chance to do it again after a massive 1 – 3 win in Arsenal’s soil. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the two last goals (the first one a piece of art) and Park scored Man U’s first. Van Persie scored Arsenal’s only one on a penalty kick on the 76th minute. Arsenal had no chance after getting scored twice in just eleven minutes. Tough love!

From then on it was Man U all the way. Manchester is now very close to being the first ever to retain a Champions League title. AC Milan was the last one to win two consecutive (then) European Champion Clubs’ Cup finals, in 89 and 90. However, no team has managed to do the same since UEFA Champions League began in 1992.

Will we have a repeat of last year’s final? Or will Barcelona take the spot away from an all English final. We’ll find out tomorrow.

First leg is over. Manchester United is the only one with some advantage at this point after winning today’s match at Old Trafford by 1-0 against Arsenal. Barcelona and Chelsea tied 0-0 yesterday in Spain which gives Chelsea a bit of a leg forward with a home match next week. But when it comes down to in, a Champions League semi-final is a Champions League semi-final (makes sense?!) and this week’s results can mean nothing next week.

Why do clubs hire top footballers? So that when it comes time to make a difference on the pitch they will get the job done. Well done. Individually or collectively. They will find space where no one else could and hit the net in most inexplicable ways. There a couple of lucky teams with such footballers out there.

Today, however, Cristiano Ronaldo was the one to take Manchester United qualify to the semi-finals of the Champions League with a single moment of pure football beauty.

Porto had entered the pitch confident after a 2-2 tie back in Manchester on the first leg. Everyone had hopes at Estádio do Dragão and the Portenhos only needed to tie to send Man U back to England and qualify to Champions League’s semi-finals. But football is football and that’s why we love it so much.

With only 6 minutes into the match, Cristiano Ronaldo received a pass from Anderson, about 35 yards out of Helton’s goal, took the shot… and Bob’s your uncle. Manchester 1. Porto 0.

From there on, it was hard for Porto to bring momentum back. With one single individual play, Cristiano Ronaldo managed to put Manchester into the semis and add one more reason to live in cocky land.
