Yes, they don’t. Technology which would most likely improve the performance of the referee has been rejected by the Ship Mother of Football. The International Board decided to suspend all technological efforts that might help the refs, said Jerome Valcke this past Saturday.

Smart Ball seems to finally be smart.

FIFA has been testing their new smart ball and goal-line technology during this year’s FIFA Club World Cup in Japan. After several testing of some other not-so-smart balls, this one seems to be the geek one who will always work. The ball has some very ET looking sensors inside and works responding to a “line” placed at each goal. Now referees will be facing much more tranquility during matches and will take responsibility off their minds and throw it on the little machine attached to their wrists.

“Brazilian invaders” an issue for Blatter

This week I read this interesting article from Martha on The Offside. I though it would be nice to share since for the past few weeks we have heard lots and lots about speculations on what is the problem with international football (the picture is also from her (!) )

FIFA President Sepp Blatter has found the real problem for international football, and it’s nothing to do with bankrupt FAs, England being crap, or the outrageously punishing World Cup qualifying road down with South and Central American nations have to travel. No, it’s Brazilians, specifically those who play abroad. According to Blatter, “If we don’t take care about the invaders from Brazil … then the next World Cups in 2014 and 2018 out of the 32 teams … we will have 16 full of Brazilian players.” Never descends into hyperbole, does he?

World Cups: No more continent rotation.

After a meeting today, FIFA committee decided to stop the policy of rotating the hosting of World Cups through its six continental confederations. No more of electing countries just because World Cups have to rotate the world. The policy helped South Africa get 2010 and Brazil 2014. Now the spot is open for 2018. Who should be the lucky country?
