Bye-bye Third Division; Hello Second Division

The four teams promoted from the third to the second division of Campeonato Brasileiro were unraveled yesterday. They are Icasa, America-MG, Guaratingueta and ASA. These are the goals (some of them) and results.

Icasa 6 – 2 Paysandu:

Paysandu, the traditional side from Para, was unable to beat Icasa in the hot lands of Juazeiro do Norte. Icasa returns to the second division after 24 years, in the year it was relegated in its state.

America 3 -1 Brasil Pelotas:

This is the most traditional side promoted. After 5 years, it returns to the second division. The club played the first division for the last time (out of the 13 times) in 2001.

Caxias 1 – 1 Guaratingueta:

Guaratingueta kept the tradition of its short history of being promoted playing away. The 10 year-old side will join the national second division in the same year it was relegated in the state championship.

Rio Branco 2 – 2 ASA

The club from Arapiraca qualified with 2 draws 1-1 at home and 2-2 playing away. The club who once eliminated Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil reaches the second division for the first time. The last time it had played the third division was in 2005. The club also played the first division once, in 1979.
