Brasileiro: Palmeiras New Leader; Sao Paulo and Avai Growing
In the 15th round, Palmeiras finally reached the top of Campeonato Brasileiro. In the debut of coach Muricy Ramalho, the new leader beat Fluminense 1-0. Diego Souza, one of the best in the league, scored the only goal. Fluminense, on the other hand, seats on the 19th spot. The club has not had a victory in 10 matches, which means that Renato Gaucho has not won yet in his return.
Palmeiras reached the top after Atletico-MG lost its second game in a row. It seems it wasn’t only goalie Aranha they forgot in Belo Horizonte. Even though Atletico scored first through Eder Luis, Flamengo came back in great fashion. Under interim coach Andrade, Flamengo controlled actions and scored 3 goals with Leo Moura, Kleberson and Everton. Diego Tardelli, playing his first match after being called to the national team, did nothing.
Right behind Atletico is Inter. For the third time at home, the club scored 2 goals (Alecssandro, Andrezinho) and allowed the visitors to tie. Barueri seemed it was going to walk away with one point despite the great match by midfielder Andrezinho. With 5 minutes left, however, Andrezinho hit the cross bar and defender Sorondo scored the winning goal: 3-2.
The other club to join the top 4 was Goias after it thrashed the weak side of Atletico-PR. In 10 minutes the match was already 2-0, goals by Iarley and Amaral. In the second-half Leo Lima scored the third. The 3-0 is a clear signal that Atletico-PR is on its way to second division. Coach Wlademar Lemos asked for his resignation after the match.
Sao Paulo played its best match in the league against Gremio, and for the first time won two matches in a row. In the 2-1, Dagoberto scored the two goals, but Hernanes and Miranda, always in rumors linking them to Europe, delivered great performances. The team headed by Ricardo Gomes found its game again.
A side that is really on recovery mode on is Avai. The team kept coach Paulo Silas after the difficult start in the league and now reaches its 5th victory in a row, a record this season. The victim this time as the good side of Vitoria, who lost 4-0 – goals by Marquinhos, Luiz Ricardo, Muriqui and Caio.
In the match with the two sides still in the post Libertadores hangover, Cruzeiro beat Sport with a single goal by Kleber. Cruzeiro played with 10 men for most of the match, and the goal came in the final moments of the game.
After losing Andre Santos and Cristian (sold do Fenerbahce), Douglas (to the Middle East) and Ronaldo (injury and lipo), Corinthians is falling. The team was dominated against Santo Andre, who is also experiencing a decline, and the 1-1 draw was considered a great result given all this. Goalie Felipe saved Corinthians. However, Santo Andre scored first through a free-kick ironically taken by Marcelinho Carioca, a man who scored many times for Corinthians in the same way. The tie happened in a penalty taken by Chicao.
Nautico still is really bad shape. It played with 10 men in the second half against Santos. The result was another defeat at home. Neymar and Gilmar scored for each team. The winning goal by Rodrigo Souto came in the stoppage time.
Coritiba and Botafogo tied in 2 goals, and both remain in the lower portion of the table. The draw came with Coritiba’s Marco Aurelio in the final minute of the match.
