Things We All Know (or are learning)

The 5th round of Campeonato Brasileiro confirmed a few things either Brazilians already know or are getting used to.

1) Bad boys will always be bad boys:

Goalie Fabio Costa from Santos and forward Kleber from Cruzeiro did it again. In the Santo Andre 3- 3 Santos draw, Fabio Costa caused an injury in Gustavo Nery which will leave him out of action for 3 months at least. In the Cruzeiro 1 – 1 Inter, Kleber took the spotlight in one of the most promising clashes of the league so far. Not in a good way. He was dirty again, by stepping on goalie Lauro. And one more time he was ejected in his career.

2) The two sides from Curitiba suck:

Atletico-PR and Coritiba both have 1 single point in five matches. On the weekend, they lost again. Coritiba visited Corinthians and lost 2-0. Atletico-PR did even worse. It received Atletico-MG and was humiliated: 4-0.

3) Waiting until the last minute to score the winning goal is cool:

Botafogo, who is showing signs of getting closer to second division, and Fluminense were playing a boring match. However, with few minutes left Fred scored a beautiful and lonely goal. On the other hand, Palmeiras and Vitoria were playing a thrilling match in Sao Paulo, as the side from Bahia always causes trouble to the locals. Marcos was saving one more time the side of Vanderley Luxemburgo. That’s when Mauricio Ramos scored in the stoppage time the winning goal. Final score: 2-1.

4) Sides new to the first division love a draw:

Both Barueri and Avai tied 4 out of their 5 matches. Barueri visited Goias and tied in 2 goals. Avai received Sao Paulo and wasn’t able to leave the zero draw.

5) If your defense sucks, you’re screwed:

Nautico visited Gremio and its defense allowed again 3 goals. However, this time, its attack could not save the red and white team.

Flamengo visited Sport and in 9 minutes scored 2 goals. Sport, however, score 4 goals in 8 minutes. 4-2 in 35 minutes.

Few names of the round:

Marcos (goalkeeper) – Palmeiras
Andre Dias (defender) – Sao Paulo
Douglas (playmaker) – Corinthians
Weldon (forward) – Sport
Fred (forward) – Fluminense
Souza (midfielder) – Gremio
