World Cup 2018: Portugal wants to bid.
By Ana on Nov 27, 2007 in 2018 World Cup
What would be of our simple lives without World Cups? I ask myself this same question everyday. World Cups make us forget we have jobs, transform one pint of beer into an everyday drink, and live, for one month (or more), every 4 years, with nothing else in our brains other than football. No wonder… we haven’t even reached 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Brazil has just been chosen as 2014 host, but there is already major talk on who’s getting 2018 (Blimey, I will be old by then). And now that FIFA has stopped with the World Cup continent rotation, European countries are all lining up to try to be next in line. Portugal has put their belts on, and along with colonial-power-mate Spain, is eager to lauch their official bid.
The idea came from th Portuguese press and it seemed to have worked since politicians and the givernemnt are all itching with excitment. All the “ex” politicians have approved of the idea, like ex-sports boss, José Luis Arnaut, and ex-Lisbon mayor, João Soares.
I do believe Portugal and Spain should have no problems in having a World Cup. They both posses beautiful stadiums, a passion for football, nice transportation systems, security, and good food. Plus Cristiano Ronaldo would be showing off even more at his homeland.
Do you think they have a good chance?
