Israel and Palestine 2018 World Cup partnership?
By Ana on Dec 7, 2007 in 2018 World Cup

Yes, I know. And no, I am not losing it. There is an effort going on to try to get the 2018 World Cup to be hosted by both Israel and Palestine. Like I just said: effort. Nothing official yet. But the fact is that the enemies in Politics, could, together, give a chance for peace through football.
The effort is coming from a Palestinian organisation called One Voice. They are a grassroots movement promoting the voices of moderates in Israel and Palestine.
- Since our inception, we have been aiming at reframing the conflict, transcending the “left vs. right” and “Israeli vs. Palestinian” paradigms. We share the same grass (or sand) and we envision a future where we can meet, compete and celebrate on a football pitch rather than on a battlefield. In order to make our grass greener, we seek to motivate and back up our ‘moderate’ silent supporters who can hopefully join forces and tone down the minor but loud voices of the ‘hooligans’.
Sounds very platonic in a way. Not sure how feasable is the idea. On the same token, however, South Africa and Brazil are both (not so much) violent countries and are still getting FIFA’s support to promote a World Cup. Hum….
Anyways, the site has some very sad/funny stuff. You can click to see the hosting cities images which I strongly believe was not a good way to promote the idea (Especially the ones from Gaza and the one from Tulkarem).
Their wishful news section is also sort of funny.
What is your opinion on this?
