June 13: The Hand of Dumb

Ana is on her way to South Africa, so I’ll be doing the games recap today. I hope you like it!
Algeria x Slovenia
I can’t say it was a great match, but I wasn’t expecting a great match. The two supposedly weakest teams in group C played a game without much excitement. Slovenia won 1-0, and we had the second “frango” of this World Cup. Much like it happened to England’s goalkeeper, Green, the Algerian goalkeeper, had the ball hit him and go by into the goal. I feel bad for him, and for his mom, and I say we should blame the ball! Shame on you Jabulani!!! So, lucky win for Slovenia who now leads Group C.
Serbia x Ghana
Another match decided by crazy events. The football gods, as my sister would say, are having some fun in the World Cup. I thought the two teams were well matched and both sides had their chances. As for the Algeria x Slovenia game, I wasn’t expecting much, although I was curious to see how Serbia would play, since they are supposed to be a surprise for the tournament. But after 85’ of nothing much (I consider a 0 x 0 game a nothing much game, I don’t care who you are) Zdravko Kuzmanovic decides to touch the ball with his hand, in one of the weirdest handball I’ve ever seen. If Diego Maradona had the Hand of God, this was the Hand of Dumb! But I feel bad for the guy, I think he didn’t even do it on purpose; I’m gonna go ahead and blame the ball again. Shame on you Jabulani!!!! So Ghana scores the penalty kick, and that’s all I wrote.
Germany x Australia
Offense finally prevailed! Good game…for Germany. Australia looked weak and scared. With goals from Podolski, Klose, Mueller, and Cacau (who is actually Brazilian), Germany was far superior to Australia, in what I consider the first big mismatch of this World Cup. Not much else to say.
